Making Charcoal

At the beginning of this pack, you won't be able to mine Coal. That's intentional, as we want to force you to make Charcoal in a Charcoal Pit. This is a Crafting Mechanic added by the Charcoal Pit mod. Let's see how you can do this.

By placing 8 logs in a Crafting Grid, you can make Log Piles:

These have to be placed in a hole in the ground (you can use more/less then what's shown here):

After placing the piles, cover them with dirt. No empty air pockets have to be present. Before completely covering the piles, leave an empty space:

Using a Fire Starter, set the exposed pile on fire. After that, cover the last burning pile with dirt. You should see smoke particles appearing:

After 18 MC hours (10 minutes) the particles will disappear and instead of your Log Piles, you'll get Piles of Charcoal which can be harvested with a Shovel or an empty hand.
